Order Update for Christine

Here's the order update for Christine. The bodice of the dress is done. I already sew the skirt and the linings, I just need to attach the skirt to the linings, and after that attach it to the bodice, and make a sash to go around the waist.

Please keep in mind that the dressform is around size 6/7, that's why the dress which is a size 4/5 seems a bit tighter on the picture. That also lets you know that your daughter still be able to wear this dress until she's a size 6/7.

I will try hard to mail the dress before this weekend :).

Thanks Christine, what a wonderful opportunity to be working for you again, I always enjoy it :).

Homeschooling

I am so excited to start homeschooling my daughter. I am gathering materials and read a lot about it, and I think I can start doing it on Nov. 1st.

I so don't trust the school system in this town. Heard so many things that made me decided that homeschool will be the best for my children. I was a teacher so it shouldn't be a big problem. In fact I am so looking forward to it.

I will start a different blog special for homeschooling my child sometimes in the next week or two.

Jammies

Just made the bottom part of jammies for my kids. I will make the top as soon as I have time.

When I saw this light blue and pink flannel fabric at the store, I just have to have them. They are very nice and soft. And it looks like the kids love them too.

Hate it!

I am not pleased with how this dress turned out. It just doesn't look right. I think I'm just going to make a 2 piece set. I will make a white top still with the butterflies applique but this time with zipper on the back and a black skirt. I saw a super cute gathered skirt by Prada today at Vogue, and I just love it. I think I will make something similar out of this fabric.

Current Project

O.K, I thought I was going to sew the green microsuede as my next project. But it turned out this black linen fabric with silver butterfly just calling my name, lol :). The first time I saw the fabric, I thought I just have to sew this right now.

The bodice is made out of 100% solid white cotton sateen. And I cut a couple of pieces of butterflies from the skirt and made the as applique on the bodice.

I can't wait to attach the skirt to the bodice. I want to add a little touch of vintage to this dress by using this kind of neckline. And I just love the color of black and white, they are timeless. I am also going to put a silver ribbon on the middle to match the silver butterflies and add that luxury feeling.

Next Design and Fabric Swatches

This will be my next design. It will be a jacket and dress. The jacket will be made out of 100% red cotton twill and the dress will be made out of deep green microsuede embroidered with orange yarn in flowers pattern. Both colors are very rich but yet very earthy.

Hopefully I can finish the set before Nov. 1st. I will make one as "one of a kind" first, size 5. I already made the pattern and cut the red fabric. I haven't sew it yet, I will make the pattern for the dress tonight and tomorrow.

I still have bunch of new fabrics, but I doubt I will be able to work on them pretty soon. Hopefully in few more weeks I will be able to do it. My spring and summer collection will have a little bit of both French and Mediterranian touch and will be inspired a lot by my favorite designer, the super chic Oscar de la Renta.

Fabric Shopping for 2008 Collection

Last weekend I did some fabric shopping for my 2008 collection. I will post the pictures of the fabric tomorrow, hopefully.

It was so much fun, I can't wait to mess with those fabrics. I've been doing lots of sketches here and there. I hope I have enough time to sew some of them. I know I'm planning to make at least just one one of a kind holiday dress to be auctioned off next week, I hope I can fulfill my own deadline for the auction.

Grey Suit Jacket

This is the grey suit jacket I'm working on for Christine. Inspired by one of the pieces of Michael Kors from his 2007 fall/winter ready to wear collection. He has some grey suit jacket for women in that collection, and the first time I saw it, it makes me want to make the little girl's version of it. And of course I put some puffy sleeves on the jacket, puffy sleeves has been very popular this year for children clothing, and it's still going to be big next year as seen in Pitti Bimbo 2008 trends fashion shows.

This jacket is made out of suiting fabric, fully lined, and I just love the buttons in this jacket, they were made in Italy.

It took me a couple of days to make the pattern and cut the fabric.

Just like the brown paisley dress, the jacket is still in the very early stage of construction. No lining and sleeves yet.

Check back in few days for more updates. :)

Brown Paisley Dress

This is the dress I'm working on for Danielle. Inspired by a piece of Ralph Lauren's I saw on his 2007 fall/winter ready to wear collection. And this particular neckline is all over fashion magazines like Vogue, etc. And I just have to have to make one dress with this kind of neckline.

This dress is made out of rich brown microsuede fabric. Very nice and soft. The fabric is embroidered with paisley pattern and sequins. I just fell in love with this fabric the first time I saw it.

Anyway, I finished making the pattern a couple of days ago, and then the cutting of the fabric the other day.

This is still in the early stage, no lining yet and the side seams hasn't been sewn yet. I will work on the dress some more today :).

Check back in few days for more updates.

Inspirations

I got my design inspirations from a lot of stuff, from music, movies, people, my favorite designers, etc. Dior, Valentino, Versace, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, are just some of my favorite designers.

I love how modern, sophisticated, and clean cut Versace's garments are. And Oscar de la Renta's are so chic and French and couture, and who doesn't love sexy and romantic pieces by Valentino?

Meanwhile I also love Audrey Hepburn's taste for fashion. Her clothing were so chic, couture, and timeless. Sometimes when I design something, I ask my self, if Audrey Hepburn was a little girl, what would she wear?

Everytime I watch 50's and 60's movies, I always find my self staring at the garments the movie stars wore and trying to figure out how to make the patterns and sew them. I always admire how elegant, glamorous, and perfectly tailored those garments were.
