Ultimate Dress Designer

A lot of people asked me who my favorite dress designer is. It's tough because I adore so many designers, Oscar de La Renta, Valentino, Marchesa, Vera Wang, Prada, Chanel, and tons more. Each have unique point of views and designs. But if I have to choose one, it would be Elie Saab.

Why Elie Saab? Well, have you seen his collections? Especially his couture collections. OMG! Everytime I see his garments, my heart beats faster, it's like a treat for my eyes. I would LOVE to be able to wear anything Elie Saab. His dresses are elegant, beautiful and always stunning.

I'm going to renew my wedding vow a couple of years from now (God willing). I never had a chance to wear a western style wedding dress, mine was a traditional Indonesian one, so this time I'd like to wear the western one. And I am having a hard time choosing what dress I'm going to make and wear. I would love to wear Elie Saab's, but they probably cost as much as my house, lol. So, I will have to settle by trying to recreate one of Elie Saab's dresses, but all of them are GORGEOUS, so which one? I do still have a year or so to think about it though.

Order update for Natasha. The muslin dress is done. Most of the stitches are temporary, I just wanna see how the dress fit first. You will see a lot of basting (temporary stitches) on the dress, like on the ribbon, the flounce, the pleats, etc. All of those will be removed. The pleats will be supported with stiches from the back, the seams on the flounce will be under the flounce, etc. I haven't hem the skirt, let me know how many inches you want me to take for the hem.

The dress is on its way to your place now, You should receive it on monday or tuesday the latest. :)

Order update for Natasha. I'm finished making the pattern and now putting the dress together. I still need to connect the shoulder seams, baste the flounce (the seams on the flounce will be under the flounce and not outside like the pic above), the ribbon is temporary, the real ribbon will be slightly wider than the one on the pic, I need to put the zipper in, stitch the lining, and do some tucks here and there. Oh yeah, my dress form doesn't have hip, lol, so the hip on the dress looks saggy, but it should be fine when you try it on.

After I finish with it, I will send it to you to be fitted and let me know if the fit is O.K. The muslin dress is not hemmed yet, I think when you try it on just mark it with the pencil where you want the hem to end.

The finish dress will have a waist stay inside and a corselette (not corset), it's just a fancy term for boned foundation, to make sure everything stay the way it should be. And the flounce will be supported with skewed ruffle underneath, it will be invisible from outside and it is meant to give the flounce some support so that it won't be flimsy.

Order update for Natasha. I'm using a brand new tee to make the dress form fits to your measurements. I have draped some muslin to make the front and back bodice. It's still rough, I need to even out the necklines, waist, etc. I have added seam allowence for the back pattern. Now I need to work on the front pattern. There will be a seam in the center front because the silk organza will be 45" wide. If it was 60" (if there's such a thing as 60" wide organza) I probably could make the whole bodice in one pattern.

After the bodice pattern is done, I will do the skirt. A colleague of mine who specialize in bridal and costuming adviced me to eliminate the corset because the style of the back bodice doesn't allow for a corset foundation. I will still use the bra you're sending me for fitting of the bodice.

Will post more pics in a few days. Your fabrics should arrive in a few days, I have called my supplier in NY last week and place an order of silk organza.

Chic Textured Kimono Dress, Available in Different Colors!

Color Choices:

This is one of the most time consuming garment I've ever made, but it is all well worth it. Most of the countless hours of work goes into sculpting the Sugar Snap fabric is used as applique. If you take a look at it closely, the Sugar Snap fabric is slightly raised to create textures. It is hand appliqued. The circles appliques also took a lot of time to create and appliqued.

This garment will be custom made from size 2T up to 8, black leg warmers/ tights are also included. Larger sizes and adult sizes of the garment is also available for additional fees, feel free to contact me if you need bigger sizes.

The deep red fabric I used in this garment is unfortunately sold out. However, you will still have 24 other colors to choose. You can mix matched the colors, do the bodice in pink and the skirt in khaki, or anything you want, just have fun :)

Please allow up to 30 days for the garment to be made. All my garments have superior quality of both materials and craftmanship.

The fabric is 100% Pima cotton broadcloth, it lends the firm durability and unrivaled softness of Pima Cotton. Originating in the southwestern of the United States, it is most closely comparable to Egyptian Cotton, with which it shares long-fibered tensile strength and an amazingly soft hand. Machine washable.

Vintage Retro Blue Damask Dress

This piece is an update of my vintage chic line. I made a retro inspired dress early this year, and it was very popular, evertime I listed it, it was sold. So I decided to update the silhouette a bit, and instead using solid colors I used print. And I LOVE this powder blue damask print. I also LOVE white, to me it always compliments and pops any colors in a chic way. So I used the solid white on the ruffled yoke.

The faux buttons are made out of blue velvety beads. It has invisible side pockets that blend with the side seams, and the dress has a zipper closure on the back. It is lined with 100% cotton for comfort.

It is a shirtdress so it is very versatile, can be worn anywhere, with anything, and for any age. To schools, parties, malls, etc, and pair it with tights, leggings, pants, shorts, etc. Will be custom made from size 2 - 7. Pale Lime Dress, Fabric by Giorgio Armani

This is one of my favorite design. Inspired by vintage silhouette (I'm a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn). The fabric is linen by Giorgio Armani. As we all know that linen is a natural fiber, has been used for thousands of years by Egyptian Royalty etc. This fabric is made in Italy. Top of the line quality, it literally is runway and couture quality. The dress is lined with cotton for comfort.

The fern design is appliqued on the dress to create an earthy and organic feel to it. The dress has invisible zipper closure on the back.This dress will be custom made to your size, from size 2 - 8.

George Gabrielle Couture Goes Green in 2009

The 2009 Collection of George Gabrielle Couture will be green. All garments will be made with organic cotton whenever possible.

I am experimenting with natural plants derived dyes at the moment. Today I'm using coffee grinds to achieve brown color. I will be expermenting with tons of plants until the end of the year and perfect my dyeing recipes. I am so looking forward to doing this collections.

I will soak my fabric overnight in the dye, so tomorrow morning I will see the result. I will post here when the fabric is done :). I can't wait! :)

I emailed ST. Jude's Children Research Hospital and asked if they accept hats and bandanas donations for their patients who lost their hair because of illness. They said they do.

I did request for them to take pics of the donation either with patients, or maybe with just a couple of staff, to show our donators and out hard working volunteers that the donations arrive there. But they said that they can't do that :(. I'm a bit dissapointed because I've been so loyal to them, I'm a monthly donator of their hospital. I just don't understand why they can't do it.

Sneak Peek Fashion Republic's Fashion Week Launch

Here's another sneak peek for another launch, this time is for the modeling group I created. We're having "Fashion Week" launch from Oct. 20th - Nov. 3rd to showcase our new models.

I fell in love with this fabric the first time I saw it. It is pale lime Giorgio Armany Fabric, made in Italy, and it is the best and most luxurious linen I've ever touched in my life. I used Amy Butler's coriander fabric to make the fern applique. We all know that linen is natural fiber, so I thought the fern will add an organic feel to it. And my photographer shot this with the woods background, and makes the dress feels much more earthy, thanks Angela!

The dress' silhouette is pretty clean and simple. Inspired by one of my favorite actresses of all time Audrey Hepburn. It feels a bit vintage but very updated. Super versatile and can be worn anytime anywhere, and for any age. To schools, parties, malls, etc, and pair it with tights, leggings, pants, etc.

This dress will be custom made from size 2 - 7. And as usual bigger size is always available with additional fee. If you want to get this dress, feel free to contact me. Fabric is very limited, and once it's gone, this garment will not be recreated anymore.

Bandanas for Children with Cancer

I just joined a group on Flickr.com called Littlest Heroes Project, their website is littlestheroesproject.org.

Anyway, I asked the leader for a way for me to donate. And Felicia, the leader, said that I could donate hats and bandanas for children with cancer. She'll be the one who send this bandanas to them or to her local hospitals.

So, a couple of weeks from now I will make some bandanas. And the best part is Amy Butler Fabric will be sending me some fabric samples to make bandanas out of. I am so excited. I LOVE Amy Butler's fabrics, and I think these will make super cute and chic bandanas, something that they'll treasure, and the fun prints hopefully will help cheer these children.

I'll post here again when the fabrics arrive.

George Gabrielle Couture is having another charity auction. 100% of the proceed will go to ST. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

We are auctioning these shorts with polkadots ruffles on them. Some people are bidding on it already and I hope more people will, it is for a very good cause. Thank you to all who participate in this bidding :).

Hi Jill,

The garment is done and packaged in George Gabrielle Couture's new earth friendly bag or pouch. This bag is made out of natural fiber down to the cord which is made out of 100% natural hemp.

Just like when we buy high end bag like Louis Vuitton, etc, they always include the dust cover. And that's what gives me the idea to create this packaging pouch/bag. So instead using paper bag and tissue papers, like I used to, that we're going to throw away anyway, I decided to use this one. That way less trash in this world :).

Anyway, your garment is all packaged and ready to ship. It will be on its way to you tomorrow morning and it should be there in about 2 - 3 days from Monday. I will send you the confirmation number later on today.

Since both auctions ended almost a the same time, I decided to work on the garments together. The top is cut and half sewn. The next step will be inserting the linings, the straps, and elastics around chest, and embellish the pants with the crocheted trimming.

The midriff is sewn in. It might look a bit wide right now, it's because it has seam allowance, it will be a bit narrow when the dress is finished. The next step will be sewing in the sleeves or the skirt and its lining, and then the lining of the bodice.

Your patterns are made and cut, and I try the patterns on the muslin. It's a practice fabric. All other adjustments and alterations will be done at this point and after everything fit nicely I will then cut and sew the silk.

I will sew in the muslin sleeves and midriff today.

Here's your order update Sian. As you can see on top of my working table here, I've cut the front and back part of the skirt. The next step will be to sew the darts, cut the front and back facings, attached the invisible zipper, hang it for a couple of days to let all the stretch out since I cut the fabric on the bias .

The fabric for your second skirt will arrive in the next few days.

I managed to make one more children garment as part of my 2008 collection. This is a shirt dress, with flowers and stripes print. I love the fabric, I think it's just so perfect for spring and summer. And if you add tights or pants and long sleeves shirt and a scarf, your little girl is ready for winter.

And the dress is on my way to my model today. I am so looking forward to see how it looks on her.

Fabric: Chiffon Maternity Dress, Client: Susan - UK

O.K Susan, here's the available green chiffon fabrics from my supplier. Please keep in mind that the fabrics below is charmeuse and not chiffon. They use charmeuse for the picture because it shows the colors better, chiffon is transparent so it is difficult to take pictures of. The colors of the chiffon is the same, the different is just that it will be transparent. The lining will be made out of China Silk with the same color. So let me know which shades of green you like best. Oh yeah, please also note that each computer screen is different, so the color might look slightly different.
